Short posts are best, right? We can all use the extra time. Speaking of saving time, our new version 1.3 of the Spinning Meals app has a completely rebuilt internet recipe capture capability, making it easier than ever before to find and store recipes online.
It finds recipes from Food.com, Food Network, Martha Stewart, Epicurious, Taste Of Home, as well as some blogs like The Pioneer Woman, Simply Recipes, and Steamy Kitchen. Recipes you like are saved in your app as a personal copy, just like a print-out at home, and can be built into your automatic meal plan.
What other sites would you like to see added? Is meal planning important to you in 2013? And as we continue to improve the app, what feature(s) would you most like to see?
Happy New Year, everyone. To your health!
P.S. Here is the link to the app in the app store.
P.P.S. I’ll be speaking about my app development experience at the Portland Culinary Alliance meeting at Serratto Restaurant next Saturday January 12 at 11 am, along with Bob Greenberg of TablesUp, and Brett Burmeister of Food Carts Portland. Follow this link for details and registration if interested.
Vegan recipes please
Certainly! Great to hear from you, Craig. Let me know if there are particular vegan recipe sites you’d like us to look into first.
The app looks awesome, Ryan! Congrats!
Thanks Kristy, that means a lot! Happy New Year!
I would like to see a way to make your own categories, such as Italian, Mexican, Slow Cooker, etc. That way, if you like to have a certain-type of cuisine on a specific day of the week, the spinner could automatically plan that. For example, we like to have Mexican food every Saturday because that is when we have fresh tortillas. I have at least half a dozen different meals, some that I like repeated more often than others. So, if I could categorize those meals as Mexican and then choose to plan those on Saturdays, that would be great!
Great suggestion Rachel, thanks! We are definitely planning to allow new ways to categorize things. As you know there is currently a drop-down listing categories like Poultry, Grains and Rice… but we plan to allow Recipe Traditions as a new, separate field. And allowing these lists to be expanded by users is important to a number of others as well. I think your idea to allow the selection of meals to be based on a chosen category, makes a ton of sense. We’ll see what we can do!
